Seattle now plays in its most significant game of the season so far when it faces the Los Angeles Rams at home for sole possession of 1st place in the division. The importance of this game can not be understated. Winning this game gives us the tie breaker over the Rams, puts us in 1st place and in the driver’s seat in the march towards the playoffs. If we lose this game, we fall two games behind the Rams, making winning the division highly unlikely, and we would have to depend on another NFC team to lose (most likely Atlanta), to get into the playoffs…. even if we were to finish the season with 10 wins.

Doug Baldwin on Russell Wilson: “He was in the zone. I told him whatever that felt like, he’s got to hold on to it because we need him to be in that mode for the rest of the season because if he does that we’ll be unstoppable.”

This loss to the Atlanta Falcons will hurt for a while. In a game that Seattle won on stats alone, it lost because it did not take care of the football that led directly to Atlanta points, which was the difference in this game. You can point to the Blair Walsh fake attempt and the miss at the end as the reasons we lost, but that would be missing the point…pun intended. 🙂

In a game that will be remembered more for the day Richard Sherman was injured, than the win itself. None the less, it moved the Seahawks season record to 6-3, and in the competitive playoff hunt in the NFC. Seattle currently sits as the 5th playoff team and a wild card berth.

The Seahawks problems in this game went well beyond the three missed field goal attempts by Blair Walsh, all wide left. While it is easy to pin this loss on him after losing by 3 points on Sunday, there were many other contributing fractures.
