EPS 53 Podcast: The Combine: It’s the Shaquem Griffin Show

Hey Seahawks fans, welcome back to the Hawks Playbook Podcast. Thank you so much for listening to Bill Alvstad and Keith Myers as we meet here each week to discuss all the happenings around your favorite team, The Seattle Seahawks! This week, we go into the NFL Combine. This event was held this last week to showcase the upcoming draft eligible players and help us identify which of those players would fit into the athletic profile of what Pete Carroll and John Schneider like to have on the team. We break down the offensive and defensive players in each position group that could be ‘Seahawky’ players. On the top of the list must be Shaquill Griffins brother Shaquem! He had a remarkable athletic performance at the combine by doing 20 reps on the bench press with a prosthetic hand and then running a blistering 4.38 Forty at a playing weight of 227 lbs! Wouldn’t be great to reunite these twin brothers on Seattle’s defense?!

EPS 51 Podcast: How to Fix the Defense

While there are plenty of question marks, the team remains in good hands with Pete Carroll and John Schneider. We can expect them to make sound decisions, and maybe some difficult roster choices during free agency. We can expect to lose players we all wish we could keep. We can expect to sign players on value contracts that you’ve never heard of in incrementally improve the defense. But don’t expect the Seahawks to be big players. This year is all about consolidating the roster and trying to get younger via the draft, while looking a little bit forward to the 2019 season where the team will have more cap flexibility and a load of newly acquired comp picks to add to the youth movement the team needs to take to get better, and hopefully make a return to the Super Bowl.

EPS 47: 2018 First Look: Salary Cap and Team Free Agents

Hello Seahawks Fans, welcome to the Hawks Playbook Podcast. In today’s episode, Bill and Keith take a first look at the current state of the salary cap for the team. The bottom line? How much money do we have to spend and how will that effect the roster in 2018? We start by using team cap totals provided by www.overthecap.com. They have been compiling salary cap information for all NFL teams for several years now and have proven to be mostly accurate in the cap info that they publish. Even if it’s within 10% accuracy, it will be good enough to get the conversation started for where the Seahawks stand to start the off-season.
