Hawks Playbook Podcast Episode 21 – Training Camp Report Vol. 1
Open: Hello again and welcome to the Hawks Playbook Podcasts with Co-Hosts Bill Alvstad and Keith Myers. This week’s episode is focused on the first week of training camp for the Seahawks, which began on Sunday. We have finally made it passed “the off season” and have moved onto the preseason phase of Seahawks football!
News: The most important news of this first week was not what was happening on the practice field, but what had happened off the field. An otherwise celebratory atmosphere of the opening day of camp was tamped down a bit by missing player Malik McDowell. The team did not disclose why he was not available until after the practice when coach Carroll indicated McDowell had been injured in a “vehicular accident” a few weeks ago.
While the team released a statement that remained vague on the nature of the accident and injury, and Pete indicated they are still in the discovery phase of the evaluation process, However, McDowell is back in Seattle at this point and the team is in process of evaluating the condition of their prized 2nd round pick. There is still no definitive word out of the Seahawks organization as to McDowell’s status or when he might return to the playing field. Fingers crossed.
In other news, Bill and Keith discuss Kam Chancellor’s 3 year, 36-million-dollar extension, which is great news for the team and its fans. We talk about Kenny Easley’s long and winding road to being inducted into the NFL’s Hall of Fame this weekend. He was a great player and this recognition is much deserved. We discuss the training camp punch that Frank Clark landed on Germain Ifedi in camp on Thursday. Finally, we also go over the signings, cuts and one trade that took place this week. It’s been busy!
Signings: Marcel Reece. Mike Morgan. Marcus Smith
Cuts: Arthur Brown. Nolan Frese
Trade: Kevin Pierre Louis traded to Kansas City for DJ Alexander.
Featured Segment: Training Camp Report Vol. 1
Bill and Keith hold a long discussion about what we have seen in camp, and what we have heard. Keith can’t wait to talk offensive line, so we start there. While it looks like Britt and Ifedi have solidified their spots at Center and Right Tackle, other position battles are taking place. We talk at length about Glowinski, Fant, Joeckel, Odhiambo and Pocic and what we can expect this next week. We move to the defensive side of the ball and discuss standout players in the secondary, and at linebacker.
Finally, we turn our attention back over to the offense and discuss the competition at running back and wide receiver, and end the show talking about camp standouts Russell Wilson and Jimmy Graham.
