Seahawks fans, welcome back to another edition of the Seahawks Playbook Podcast! We finally made it to Training Camp week! It has been such a long off-season, so thank you so much for sticking with us each week to bring you the best Seattle Seahawks content that we can. This weekend also brought us the biggest blockbuster trade in the NFL this season when the Seahawks gave up two 1st round picks, a 3rd and Bradley McDougald for the New York Jets safety Jamal Adams! Wow!! Seattle also receives back a 2022 4th round pick in the mega deal.
This deal had been speculated on for a while now since Adams came out and included Seattle on a list of teams he would like to be traded to….but the actual timing of the trade and the trade compensation blew everyone out of the water. Setting aside the compensation to New York, Seattle is receiving a true difference maker on the defensive side of the ball, and will become a foundational piece in Pete Carroll’s defense for years to come. Adams has two years remaining on his rookie deal including his 5th year option, then Seattle will have to find a way to make him the richest paid safety in the NFL to keep him.
As you can see from the title of the show, the primary reason we are here today is to get us ready for training camp. It’s been a long time coming, and with the safety protocols in place, it is going to take a while before we actually see players on the field running through drills, but at least players are beginning to arrive into team facilities. They will go through a series of Covid-19 tests and then finally be allowed to gather together for the first time during the 2020 season. Players will spend the next three weeks easing into actual football on the field until about three weeks from now, they will be able to have contact in practices. Until then, it’s going to be a steady diet of meetings, walk-throughs and drills.
Keith and Bill will continue to be here each and every week to bring you the latest news and analysis throughout training camp as we get you ready for the regular season.
Go Hawks!
