Hawks Playbook Podcast Episode 55   Seahawks Go Bargain Hunting

Open: Hello listeners and welcome into the Hawks Playbook Podcast. Thanks for joining Keith Myers and myself as we discuss all the off-season comings and goings.  As we have previously discussed, most of what has transpired was somewhat expected except for the release of pro bowl corner, Richard Sherman.  Other big name unrestricted free agents also left the team in the last week including, Jimmy Graham, Paul Richardson and Sheldon Richardson. We also saw the trade of Michael Bennett for a 5th round pick and a flyer on a player.

With that much change, fans will always have a tough time. This is especially true when the names and the profiles are BIG! I think if you study the team and the cap as much as Keith and I have, maybe all of this is a little less surprising and even expected.  But one thing is certain, this is a distinct retool moment for the franchise that will have ramifications for many years to follow.  Of course, that retool has already begun in earnest, with the signing of several of our own free agents, and a slew of unrestricted guys to add to the mix.  Guys like Mingo, Dickson and Fluker look to have starting spots as the roster stands right now and others were brought in to compete for rotation minutes.

Now that the off-season roster has mostly taken shape prior to the NFL Draft, Keith and I will now turn most of our attention to the 2018 NFL Draft. The draft takes place the last weekend in April and the Seahawks currently have 8 draft picks. We still currently do not have any picks on day 2 of the draft, which both Keith and I expect to change.  In addition to the Seahawks trading back from round 1 / pick 18 to gain additional picks, The Seahawks could still pull off an Earl Thomas trade that could bring them additional draft capital.

Beginning with next week’s show and running right up to the draft, we will be diving into both offensive and defensive players that we think will be on the Seahawks radar and could target. It will culminate with the 2nd annual Hawks Playbook Podcast 7-round Mock Draft podcast right before the NFL Draft.

Thanks again for listening everyone. Be sure to follow Keith and I on Twitter. Keith is @MyersNFL and Bill is @NWSeahawk.

Go Hawks!
